On 7 March 2017 in Gresik, East Java PT BARATA INDONESIA (Persero) signed Letter of Intent (LOI) with Standard Car Truck (SCT) a Wabtec Subsidiary Company, from United States.

The LOI contains about the agreement between the two companies on 2017, where Barata will export components of the train through the SCT with the value reached approximately USD 11.8 million in 2017. In the cooperation, Barata Indonesia agreed to export train components, bogie (supporters of basic frame from the body of the train).

Those LOI signed by President Director of PT BARATA INDONESIA (Persero), Silmy Karim and from the SCT by Phillip R Lindsell, General Manager from the Standard Car Truck Wabtec Subsidiary Company.

President Director of PT BARATA INDONESIA (Persero) Silmy Karim stated ” For Barata Indonesia, this cooperation is one of the way to realizing the national industry growth in terms of increasing local content for the rail industry,” he said

Barata Indonesia were established in 1971, during those period of time has been supplying components of the trains for domestic and export use. To meet export quality standards, Barata Indonesia foundry plant (casting) have obtained the certificate of AAR (Association of America Railroads) as a condition to be able to penetrate export markets to the USA and Canada..

Not only SCT, business in the field of railways components will also be done Barata Indonesia with General Electric (GE) and PT INKA (Persero) and PT KAI (Persero).

For Barata Indonesia, cooperation in the field of foundry not only restricted to the railway products only. Foundry  from Barata Indonesia has also spreads to other sectors including the mining sector and also cement industry.

For mining sector, foundry plant form  Barata Indonesia has been working with PT Antam (Persero) and PT Bukit Asam Tbk by producing components of the mining tools such as Crushers and mills. In the Future,  Barata also not only will stop working with the state oned company, but also will try to engage with private company  such as PT Freeport Indonesia.
